Taster sessions

90 mins sessions to engage any attendees in the health inequalities in mental health conversation, again offering a layman's language model of mental health and a tool, while offering space and prompted discussion on how culture and religion interact with MH, eliciting some needs and highlighting some resources.

These sessions were broadcasted widely as a marketing tool for TWP and an opportunity for individuals and groups to experience TWP before direct engagement. It was an opportunity for members from mixed backgrounds to identify with MH resources and share needs and interests for future topics which continue to build our pallet for needs-based programs in future sessions and events.

Anyone could attend even without prior knowledge or link with TWP as sessions advertised in open platforms like Eventbrite as well as forums for BAME members. Through these events, individuals and representatives of groups reached out to build connections with the safe spaces which give us entryways to new communities and potential program opportunities.

Equipped to lead

These were key sessions targeted at Faith and Community leaders to respond to the report recommendations to equip them with tools to support their groups. The sessions were spread over 2 meetings. The first recognising the individual leader toassess themselves and build support systems for their well-being. In these meetings, theleaders have opportunities to learn from each other and build networks with each other. The second part of the sessions focuses on their response plan should a member need their support. The report showed that in times of need, BAME members would approach their faith or community leader as their first response. So leaders were equipped with basic tools of assessment and resources to start integrating into their response plan.

The outcomes of these sessions were for leaders to improve their well-being whilst having an opportunity to create 'a road map of response’ for their group and formulate a strategy to share this map with community members and service providers supporting them.

Open Events

These are TWP-hosted events built with a core working group consisting of service providers and community leaders and members responding to a voiced community need in the BAME community.

They are themed events of 2-hour sessions open to the wider BAME community in MK to host a conversation at the intersection of culture, faith and mental health, inviting anyone to contribute and also with TWP and the health inequalities work.

Thrive

Description: a short 30mins to 2-hour facilitated session curated for a particular group, with a basic model of mental health, application to that community and action points around gathering experiences with services or participants taking action like self-review & utilisation of knowledge shared in the session, contacting other agencies, reflecting with family, seeking out further information.

Using these hallmarks, expertise in facilitation as well as intentional journey with community groups to reach the point of engaging in the session, makes the participants feel the centre rather than the margins of our service. Subsequently, there is a unique and weighty value of these sessions for the individuals attending and as a group.
